Biography : An experienced Councillor, having served on Rochdale Borough Council for 18 years as Ward Councillor for Milnrow and Newhey, four of those years as Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Employment. I was Mayor of Rochdale from 2009 to 2010 and in 2022 was given the title of Honorary Alderman in recognition of eminent services rendered to the Council as a past member of the Council.

Councillor Howard Sykes MBE

Biography : I have represented Shaw for more than 30 years and am a founder member of the Parish Council back in 1987.  
I serve as Chair of the A V Davies Charity that provides financial support for residents in crisis and have served as governor at St. Joseph’s Primary School in Shaw for more than 30 years. I consider myself a champion for environmental matters.
Shaw is a fantastic place. Some appear to enjoy knocking the place and the community I love. Working with local citizens we can make it better.

Position : Chief Officer to the Council (Responsible Financial Officer and Proper Officer) – CiLCA qualified.

Biography : I joined the Parish Council in 2016 having had a varied 30-year career in local government and have lived in Shaw for 27 years with my wife and 2 beautiful daughters. I believe that the Parish Council has a crucial role to play in improving the lives of local people and through stronger engagement with residents and local partners real change will happen.

Councillor Joseph Beeston

Biography: I am 23 years old and have been volunteering and helping Shaw and Crompton Parish Council from a young age. This allowed me to gradually build myself some rapport and confidence. I am very passionate about animal welfare and community spirit and I also enjoy working with the public. By being elected on to the Parish Council, I’ll make the difference and work hard for my community in all I do.
